Gymnastics

Our granddaughter cannot stay upright for more than 5 minutes. She flips, she bounces on our furniture which becomes a vault, a springboard, or any other landing apparatus. She dances around the house singing and mostly upside down!

Our immersion into the world of gymnastics began in 2016. Our granddaughter has been taking gymnastics since she was two. Yep,
you heard it! Two years old.

And of course, we thought she was wonderful. So cute, hopping around the obstacle courses the instructors set up. Learning how to turn cartwheels, hop, balance, and the many other activities. We video-taped every move! First grandchild! What can I say?

Her mom also began gymnastics classes at a very early age. But this was definitely not her thing. She did not have a competitive bone in her body and the back handspring on the beam? Not going to happen. So we invested our time and money into ballet and music. Those years of ballet, Nutcracker, pretty costumes, and hard, hard work were so much fun.

Even though our daughter's love for dance dwindled somewhat, she continued ballet classes through high school. But her interests and bent changed and grew toward music. So we became band parents, officers on the board, going to every contest, every game. Proud, once again, of her achievements. Totally involved.

Now we are thoroughly enjoying going to our granddaughter's, meets, watching her compete, traveling over the weekends, and just having a great time. What else could be more important?

Not Created Equal

We discovered that not all gymnastics meets are created equal. The venues are vastly different, parking is always a concern, stairs, walking distances, and seating all combine to make the experience for grandparents either fun or a nightmare.

In this blog, you will find posts about the meets we have attended and what to be prepared for. My daughter and son-in-law can just take off with the kids, walk the length of two football fields, and then sit on bleachers for 2 hours and think nothing of it. Ha! Wouldn't you like to know what you're in for BEFORE you go?!? Me, too!

The Venues Tab gives reviews about the different meets we have attended. I hope you will find these helpful as you make your plans to go watch and cheer your grands!
